An apartment design for Amsterdam.

3rd year project - to design a 450m2 apartment in a city of my choice.

My chosen city is Amsterdam. It’s vibrant and cultured with a great artistic quality, I feel my design reflects that. The theme is largely based on the idea of furniture being just as much a piece of art as a functional object. This apartment is an artistic multifunctional space for working family. I feel the design works because it focuses on the clients every need and works closely with their taste and the feel of the city. All the walls are white and the floor natural to best show off the furniture in the design. The ceilings are 2.5m high, and as Amsterdam apartments are typically long rectangular shapes my design is based on covering the space of four large top floor apartments. The layout features room for a studio to suit the parent’s careers and a large enough bedroom for the daughter to have her own space also, without loosing the feel of a relaxed family living space. A large kitchen, living, dining area is housed in the front of the apartment where the view of the canals are best taken in with the most natural light. Each room shares one large hallway; the idea of this was to create the feeling of simplicity in such a large apartment as opposed to a labyrinth of segregated spaces. The TV Snug is designed as a getaway for film nights of rainy days while the roof terrace is available for entertaining in better weather.
